Overview

In collaboration with BioAnalytical Technologies (BAT), we partnered with Labindia Instruments, a leading laboratory equipment manufacturer in India, to design an advanced Flash Point Tester. This device determines the minimum temperature at which a liquid emits vapor sufficient to form an ignitable mixture with air, a critical parameter in industries like petrochemicals. The project encompassed both ergonomic product design and an intuitive user interface to enhance usability and safety.

We began by understanding the critical role of flash point testing in the petrochemical industry, especially its application in petrol stations to assess fuel volatility. Collaborating closely with Labindia’s team, we identified key areas for improvement in existing testers. Our design process focused on enhancing ergonomics to prevent spillage, incorporating advanced sensors for precise measurements, and developing a user-friendly interface for seamless operation.

Ergonomic Product Design – Introduced a gravitational handle to prevent spillage and a guided track system for smooth and secure sample insertion.

Advanced Sensor Integration – Implemented high-accuracy temperature sensors to detect the precise flash point and ensure safety.

Automated Testing Process – Designed an automated heating control system that stops once the flash point is recorded, reducing human error.

Image Processing Technology – Utilized real-time image quantification to analyze vapor concentration with accuracy.

User-Friendly Interface – Developed a simple, technician-driven UI for easy operation, real-time monitoring, and data recording.
